Millions of dogs are eaten around the world each year. It’s even LEGAL to eat dog and cat meat in 44 states in the U.S. (see link at the end of this post). In Asia, the killing of these beloved creatures comes with great brutality.
The pictures of the torture are gruesome. I can’t handle them. The ones I’ve shared here do not even adequately demonstrate the barbaric and unthinkable acts these dogs endure. I can’t post what really happens. I can’t stomach the truth. Can you?
Marc Ching, the founder of Animal Hope and Wellness, isn’t hiding behind his hands in horror so he doesn’t have to see the pain and suffering. As I write this, he is in Korea, coming to the rescue of so many confused, frightened and severely harmed dogs.
“I feel honored to work with him, he is the real deal,” said Animal Hope executive director Valarie Ianniello during a 2016 podcast. “He’s out there putting himself out there in very dangerous situations all for the animals.”
Animal Hope & Wellness is based in Los Angeles. They are not only rescuing these four-legged souls from the horrors of captivity in Asia, they are also saving dogs here at home who have been abused.
Marc has been known to answer calls in the middle of the night. He’s taken video of abuse and convinced the abuser to hand over their animal if they didn’t want the footage to see the light of day. A plainclothes person doing real world cape and mask stuff.
Animal Hope’s efforts at home continue, but right now, because Marc is currently in the meat-trade trenches in Asia, this post is focusing on the atrocities there.
“They don’t just kill the animals,” said Valarie. “They believe in torture because they believe it make the meat taste better.”
Right now Marc is on his 12th trip to Asia.
“Let the darkness begin,” wrote Marc in an Animal Hope Instagram post while waiting to board his flight at LAX.
Marc recognizes that even he can’t handle the truth. He digs deep for these missions because he knows what he will witness will be barbaric.
“We become who we need to be in the moments we need to be it,” he explained.
Marc Ching regularly becomes who he needs to be to accomplish his mission; an animal rescue hero with a heart the size of China and a soul so full of compassion and depth that just maybe the Mariana Trench could begin to compare.
Right now Marc and the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation are trying to find partners and organizations willing to help them bring back the survivors to the United States . Many of the animals have been rescued from the horrendous Yulin dog meat festival. They can now do the transport for under $300, thanks to the help of volunteers.
